Students choose their elective courses. The options at HCHS are numerous (CATE,Career & Technology Education, courses include: Family & Consumer Sciences, Technology, Ag, Building Trades). This page covers the choices in Family and Consumer Sciences.
About Me: 25 years of teaching in Hale Center High School, plus 12 years as a student here combines to 37 years in our district. I bleed blue and gold out of my right arm. I so enjoy our Owls and Lady Owls (aka Owlettes - a rose by any other name will smell as sweet!), FFA stock show, UIL participants, cheerleaders, etc. etc. etc.!!! PS - I was actually born in Hale Center.
I also love the Texas Tech Red Raiders. And if my right arm bleeds blue and gold my left arm bleeds red & black! My oldest daughter, Lauren, and I are proud alumi! My youngest daughter, Angie (2007 HC valedictorian - I'm so proud) is a Freshman at Tech! Go Tech!!! My husband Jackie and I have been married for 27 years. We are blessed to have become grandparents to a beautiful girl, Paisleigh Marie Brownd, this year. She lives in New Bruanfels with her parents!
I have a poodle named Chloe. She is an adorable & hyper part of our life! I love pets. I especially love teacher's pets - I collect all I can! Just remember you have to feed & house my teacher's pets! |

Personal and Family Development |

PFD is a great starter course for the student interested in home and family. We enjoy studying topics including interpersonal skill development, family living, child development, food & nutriton, clothing construction, housing & interiors, and consumer skills. This is a great course for freshmen and sophomores! |

Food Science & Nutrition |

|
 |
Nutrition and food preparation techniques are the focus of this semester course. Emphasis is placed on developing a healthy lifestyle. Students enjoy working in teams learning skills in the kitchen!
This course is paired with Child Development. It is best taken during the sophomore through senior year. |

Child Development/Preparation for Parenting |

 |
All parents and caregivers have questions about guiding children. The Child Development and Preparation for Parenting courses begin with the decision of whether or not a person should become a parent including the changes that will occur in the parents' lifestyle. The study of prenatal development, infancy, and early childhood is covered.
This course is paired with the Nutrition & Food Science course. It is best taken during the sophomore through senior years. It is a MUST for the teen parent! |

Grades are posted as soon as possible. New grades will be posted seven (or less) school days after the beginning of the new 3-weeks grading period. Otherwise grades are posted as they become available.
Students who have been absent and not made up their work will receive an M for missing. This averages as a zero until make-up work is turned in. (This kills an average! Be responsible - turn in missed assignments ASAP!) |

Develop an understanding of children's needs, skills, abilities, and growth. Every week holds new adventures in this course designed for the junior or senior student.
This is a tech-prep course. This means that a student may obtain college credit by meeting certain criteria for this course. |
