This class is going to be a very exciting and creative semester. My goal for this course is to enable you to experience and explore the beauty and complexity found in the world of art. I am so glad to have you in this class.

Course Outline:
Perception of Structures: develop and organize ideas from environment.
Creative Expression: through original student art projects utilizing a variety of art media and appropriate skills drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, fiberart, jewelry, and photography.
Art History: exploration of art periods, styles, or movements.
Careers in Art: research a career opportunity of your choice.
Art Evaluation: develop tools to make informed judgments of artworks.
Vocabulary Lists and Tests: weekly vocabulary words and test will be given.

Art Safety Rules:
Please be aware this list is not comprehensive and does not cover every possible safety issue for the art room. Always be careful and use common sense . . . and please, dont be afraid to ask questions.
ART SUPPLIES MAY NOT BE TAKEN OUT OF CLASSROOM WITHOUT TEACHER APPROVAL AND STUDENT CHECK-OUT PROCEDURE.
Art Supply Room ENTER ONLY WHEN TEACHER GIVES PERSMISSION!
Use caution with heated tools and materials.
Do not put plastics or clay in the sink.
Use caution with materials that stain: ink, paint, markers, dyes, and so forth.
Do not breathe dangerous fumes: spray paint, rubber cement, glue, lacquer/shellac, turpentine, printing inks, and so forth.
Be careful with sharp objects: razor blades, gouges, x-acto knives, chisels, needles, scissors, and other art tools.

*Note: Grading rubrics will be used for all art projects and daily work.

ART 3 STUDENT OBJECTIVES
1. Art of Perception Sketchbook Diary
a. Analyze and illustrate the world around you in a variety of new ways.
b. Demonstrate flexibility in problem-solving, creating multiple solutions, and imaginative thinking.
c. Analyze the meaning of images and symbols using appropriate art vocabulary.
2. Art of Expression Original Artwork Portfolio
Solving Visual Problems:
a. Plan and attempt a variety of visual solutions.
b. Select from a variety of art media: drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, fiberart, jewelry, or photography.
3. Art of Discovery Powerpoint Presentations
a. Research and study a selected period, style or art movement.
b. Trace the various cultural influences on contemporary art.
c. Select and analyze a career in art.
4. Art of Judgment Self and Group Critique
a. Analyze personal artwork and the work of others.
b. Compile a personal portfolio.
c. Collaborate with teacher to install an exhibit.
d. Participate in a juried art contest.
Art 3 Assignments
1. Art Journal Studio Planning (Due each Monday for Grading)
a. 5 weekly sketches total of 80 for semester
b. Identify sources or theme for artwork
physical, emotional, social, political environments.
c. Investigate ideas
d. Address issues local, state, national, and global
e. Establish connections between similar and dissimilar objects
f. Synthesize objects by taking them apart and reassemble in new ways
g. Record ideas, fragments, symbols, metaphors, and written notations
2. Resource File Studio Planning (Check each 3 weeks/ final grade May 16, 2008)
Compile pictures and ideas for future artwork.
3. Select and Create Original Artwork Total of 5 quality pieces
a. Select from the following Media: drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, fiberart, jewelry, or photography.
b. 2 options:
1) Entire semester on 1 media
2) Each 6 week period explore a new media
c. All artwork this semester should reflect one theme.
d. REQUIRE 1 quality piece of artwork every 3 weeks!!
4. Research Period, Style or Movement in Art (Due March 14, 2008)
a. Select a period, style or movement that corresponds with the media you have selected.
b. Identify cultural, historical, and political influences.
c. Compile and present powerpoint presentation.
5. Exploration into Art Careers (Due April 25, 2008)
a. Select and research a career in art.
b. Compile and present a powerpoint presentation.
6. Portfolio
a. 5 quality pieces of original artwork.
b. Developed around one theme.
7. Continually Critique Personal Artwork
a. Orally discuss with teacher throughout process.
b. Written analysis at completion of each piece.
